It’s Just Hot ~ Preschool Corner {& 5K too}

Preschool CornerOh, I thought that we would be doing some fun things this week, but unless that fun involved swimming in cool water or sitting and enjoying the nice cool air conditioning ~ well, it just didn’t happen.

We have MUCH to be thankful for this week. Last Friday night some freak storms went rampant through our area and many of our friends {just within a 20 minute radius} were without power and/or water for days. Some are still waiting for it to return.

Trees are down. Branches litter the roads. Power lines snapped. Millions in our area were without power ~ while outdoor temperatures soared into the 100 degree range. Quite honestly, it’s been unbelievable to see the damage this one storm did in just a brief time.

Our good friends {Cindy from Along the Way} had a 40 year old tree snap in their backyard and fall just short of their house. While the kids were excited to play and climb all over the fallen tree, it was such a sad thing to see. And oddly, a little domed tent in their backyard didn’t even budge an inch.

Go figure.

So…not a lot to report here this past week other than we’ve been reading together. Staying cool together.

And we’re thankful to be together.

How was your week?

  1. So glad Cindy was okay! Further up on her street there was a tree in the middle of a house.. The type of storm we had is called a Derecho.. and this one was so strong it was classified as a super derecho. Here is a link to an article about it: http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/deadly-super-derecho-strikes-m/67383 The coop got their customers power all back on, on the 4th of July!

  2. Glad everyone was ok! When we got home from our trip yesterday, it looked like a tornado had hit the yard, pieces of tree were everywhere. The news said 320,000 DTE Electric customers were still without power. Sad for those with no power and it will be 100 again today

  3. Julie Kirkwood says

    We were fortunate as well with that storm. Lost two trees but thankfully they didn’t fall on our house. And we never lost power. But so many around us did. Glad you and your family are okay, Jolanthe. Keep cool, this heat doesn’t look to be leaving any time soon.

  4. Brittney says

    We almost always lose power when there is even a minor storm, so we were very blessed not to lose power this time, especially when most of the state (and even people on our street) had to do without in this miserable weather. We still haven’t found our trampoline, the apple trees were ripped clean, and my in-laws garden was flattened, but otherwise our families walked away unscathed.

    • I couldn’t believe that we didn’t lose power. It flickered a few times, but we lose it if it rains hard! Go figure. So glad to hear that you all are ok ~ we found a trampoline at the end of our road…maybe it’s yours? :)

  5. I am unable to use the police officer link on this blog page. Our week was good we enjoyed the pool, friends and fireworks….I really enjoy your blog thanks :)

  6. Oh yes..we were without power for .80 hours… nasty little storm
