There are eleven books on our kindergarten must-read list. With half of our school year behind us and looking ahead at the rest of the year, here are eleven books that we will be focusing on for the rest of the school year.
The learning goes so much deeper when we have a great book that is not only rich in story line, but one that has fun activities and crafts that we can tie into the learning. That allows us the opportunity to remember through the hands-on things that we do as well!
Books We’ll Be Reading Together
The following eleven books are ones that we’ll be reading together this year as a part of our homeschool time. If you like these books, you may also enjoy the Literature Based Printables and books we read in the past. Ready to see what’s on our list? Here they are…
Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost
The Little Rabbit by Jodi Dunn
Katy No Pocket by Emmy Payne
The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss
The Big Green Pocketbook by Candice Ransom
I Am an Artist by Pat Collins
Kittens for Keeps {also called Jenny’s Surprise Summer}
a Golden Book
Play With Me by Marie Hall Ets
Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton
Henry the Castaway by Mark Taylor
What books and themes do you want to include in your school time the rest of this year? Leave a comment today {maybe the rest of us need some great ideas!!}.

I’m not familiar with all the books on your list, but the ones I know are GREAT! :)
With my younger two boys, I am looking forward to reading Mary Engelbreit’s Mother Goose book with them. Her vivid, colorful, FUN illustrations go perfectly with the rhymes! :)
Great book list and thanks so much for hosting the link up party! ~~Katie
I don’t know about the books list, but I’m looking forward to your creations to go with them! Thanks for sharing!
We just checked out Katy and the Big Snow yesterday!
How did you manage to choose just 11? I would have had to split the post to run all week, there are so many great books out there!! Love your choices though- my list would have included most of those (and then some…….)
Remember…theses are just for the rest of the school year! There are WAY more that we love and recommend. :)
Yup, just reread, sorry! I’m a little dipsy sometimes!
Katy No-Pocket was in our library set this week, too. We will enjoy reading it as we learn about the animals of Australia this month. Marsupial Sue is a fun book to partner with it. I love the message of the book: Be happy with who you are.
Yay! Excited about these! My two preschoolers and I did BFIAR last year and used several of your printables. This year we’re using FIAR this year, but with a new toddler I’ve been looking at also doing some of the BFIAR books we didn’t get to last year. So your printables will once again be great for us! Thank you so much! You are such an encouragement and inspiration in all you do.
We haven’t read any of these. Thanks for the list! I love finding new books.
Love this list! We read most of these with BFIAR last year. Katy No Pocket was a childhood favorite of mine :)
Hi Jolanthe! I continue to be inspired by all of your printables and great ideas that you so generously share with new homeschoolers like me and/or ones who are teaching younger children! I was wondering if you had been able to make some of the printables for the books that you mentioned in this post, especially the ones for Henry the Castaway? We are wanting to explore that book next week, and I am not able to find lapbook elements to go along with our lesson.
Thank you so much for all you do!!!
At this point I don’t have any plans too – time has just gotten away from me! :)
Hi! I LOVE your page and your printables!! You are awesome!! I was wondering, I don’t see any printables for Kittens for Keeps. Could you send me the link for it? Thank you so much!!!!
Although we read that story together, it was one that I was not able to make printables for. I’m sorry!
Actually, I don’t see printables for these either: The Carrot Seed, Big Green Pocketbook, I am an Artist, Play With Me, & Katy No-Pocket. How do I find them? Thanks!!
Any of the printables that I have created and have available are located on this page. I did not have time to create printables for all of the books. Thanks for understanding! http://www.homeschoolcreations.com/LiteratureBasedPrintables.html
