Preschool Corner ~ Packing Up

It’s official! Boxes started moving out of our house on Thursday and the move to our new house has begun! We kept it pretty low key for most of the week because our house had a constant cycle of inspectors, contractors, and things we had to work out with our realtor.

Meaning Mommy was a bit distracted in getting it all together. I’ll admit it! I had high hopes of getting in one good week of focused and intentional school before we had to pack up all of our stuff.

Instead I watched my little boy amaze me with things that he has otherwise refused to do during structured school time. Sing his ABC’s completely, count with 1:1 correspondence up to 12, count up to 20, identify all of his letters by name and the majority by sound ~ and all while helping Mommy pack and just sitting around reading with siblings.

There was a lot of Leap Frog watching too…and Pink Panther. I’ll admit that too.

Next week I’ll still be hosting Preschool Corner, but can already tell you we won’t be doing anything planned. We have family visiting us from Holland, so it will instead be a whole lot of fun…and moving. :)

Be sure to visit back on Monday ~ I’ll be sharing a new Transportation Preschool Pack with you all that I’m putting the finishing touches on right now!

Preschool Corner ~ Home Again

After being gone for a week and away from our kids, I can honestly say ~ “There is NO place like home!”  Of course I have to laugh, since home will be in a different location at some point this month since we closed on a new house while we were gone and will be moving soon!

Kaleb has been EVER so happy to have Mommy home and throughout the week has spent the majority of his time hugging, kissing and cuddling with me. And I’m loving every minute of it!

While the older kids have been doing their schoolwork, Kaleb has been sitting on my lap, participating along with the kids, and it has been rather fun seeing what he is learning and overhearing! One of his favorite things has been watching McKenna do her math and helping her do the computer {he feels like such a big boy!}.

Although the big kids have gotten back into their normal routine {for the most part}, Kaleb and I have been keeping it simple. Kumon workbooks, Wikki Stix, his Grasshopper Preschool Kit, Construct It Early Builders and endless game playing have been top on our list this week and just fun stuff in his workboxes {see the carousel below for what’s been in them}.

Preschool Corner ~ Bits and Pieces

Although we’ve been doing bits and pieces of things this week, we {again} haven’t done any structured or theme-focused learning.

Unless you count Mommy trying to keep it simple because we’re selling a house, showing a house and moving soon a ‘theme-focus’. :)

There have been a LOT of fort-building this week, pretend play, playdough, Education Cubes, Construct-it building, and whatever else we could squeeze in.

Zachary helped Kaleb work some on his letters in his Kumon workbook {mainly to avoid doing his own work ~ ahem}

Photobucket

He was SO excited to work on ‘curvey’ letters too!

Photobucket

We practiced writing letters on our chalkboard using a q-tip dipped in water {love that his little mouth hangs open while he is concentrating}.

Photobucket

We also made letters with playdough…and then spent lots of time getting it out from under fingernails {someone is a little picky}.

Photobucket

We also had fun with a little humming experiment ~ you’ll have to tune in Sunday to see why we were plugging Kaleb’s nose!

AND, before I forget…
