Preschool Corner ~ Firemen Lapbook

Both of the boys are very much into firemen and policemen at the moment, so we took advantage of that this week and I put together a fireman lapbook for Zachary {and also for Kaleb}.

Zachary was hilarious when I pulled out all of the printables and asked if he wanted to do some ‘schoolwork’. When he saw what it was, he ran and grabbed his marker box and plopped himself down to start working right away. I had to help put some of the lapbook / lapfolder together, but he had fun coloring and cutting some things out to put it all together.

This is a picture of the inside/outside of our fireman lapbook that we did. I used a file folder ~ no fancy folding, and just punched it with a 3 hole punch when we were done so we could put it into a binder to keep on a nearby shelf.

The front cover is a 16 piece puzzle that is part of the download. Zachary pieced it together and then we worked to glue it on the cover. The back cover is one of the other printables, a shadow matching game that features different things that firemen use.

Inside the lapbook we added our pattern strip to the top, a color word and ‘simple’ reader, words that firemen use, spelling his name, and counting/sequencing from 1-10 using the Dalmatian’s spots.

You can download individual pieces for the fireman lapbook on my website or the full file {it’s around 2.5 MB}. I will be updating it soon with additional resources for games and other activities too!

Preschool Corner ~ Uppercase & Lowercase Matching Printables

Note: There will not be a Preschool Corner the next two Fridays {December 25th or January 1st}. We’ll be busy enjoying the holidays with our family. If you are still having preschool time with your kiddos, keep posting! You can link up those posts when we return on January 8th! Otherwise, the linky will be open until then.

Merry Christmas!!

I am SO loving this printable! Zachary is doing pretty well matching upper and lowercase letters, but still has trouble with a few letters at times, so I put these together to help him out.

upper lowercase letters Click on thumbnail to download the printable.

The set has 14 pages of cards{4 cards to a page} with two full sets of alphabet cards. One set that can be cut in half to use as ‘puzzle matching’ and the other can be used as flashcards. Each card has the uppercase letter in the top left corner and the matching lowercase letter in the lower right corner. The cards have a picture in the center that begins with that letter sound. Puzzle cards have a faint gray line down the middle to use as a cutting guide. We’ve printed ours off on cardstock and laminated them to make them stronger.

Preschool Corner: Preschool Planning Form

Want to know how much we actually did this week?

{silence}

I played hookey. Serious hookey. As in ‘leaving the state and escaping spending time with my husband and meeting a GREAT blogging friend in real life‘ hookey.

Meaning nothing got accomplished in the way of schoolwork {unless you count Mommy getting re-energized a part of schoolwork}. Which really ~ that is VERY important, no? {grins}

And I can’t wait to share more on my meeting with Carisa from 1+1+1=1 and Jill from Forever ‘n Ever ‘n Always. Such absolute fun. Really and truly!!! But she holds all the picture proof…so I’m at her mercy!

BUT…I do have something to share with you all! I realized the other day that I never shared my preschool planning pages with you all, so it’s another printable this week for you all {and yes…they do look a lot like my Tot School planning forms ~ just a little different}.

I’m also working like crazy behind the scenes to get the preschool part of my website up and running so you all can access my printables in one easy place…little by little it’s getting there. But enough about our crazy week, tell me all about the fun that’s going on at your place!!!

Preschool Corner: Sign Language Alphabet Cards

We haven’t done too much ‘exciting’ stuff in the way of preschool this week, other than our everyday stuff: practicing handwriting, counting by 10’s, reading, and just having fun together playing together.

Because Zachary has been taking a sign language class at our co-op this semester, I put together some 3 x 3 cards for him to use in learning the letters of the alphabet and also the number 0 – 9.

Ours are printed off on cardstock, laminated and then hole-punched in the corner so that they can be flipped through to look at the letters/numbers and signs.

We’re also going to use this great alphabet file folder game for Zachary’s workboxes that Val @ Christian Preschool Printables created.

Preschool Corner: Mommy is Planning edition

This past week was more of a game week and outdoor time for us as a family since:

a) Mommy was sick part of the week
b) Mommy is gearing up and planning, planning, planning

That said, I wanted to share a few free printables I found {other than mine} that you all might enjoy. I know I’ll be printing a few of them off and laminating them to use this year!

These printables are available through CurrClick {you do have to register for a free account to download them}, but you can save them to your computer. I started digging around after I received an email about the first free printable below:

~ Preschool Printable Alphabet Worksheets – this one won’t be free for long!
` A Taste of Australia – this one will be handy for us this year!
~ Teacher Calendars – colorful monthly calendars for the 2009-2010 year
~ Bossie’s Alphabet – capital letters that are flowery
~ Whatever the Weather – I can’t wait to print off these weather cards to use in the morning with the boys!
~ Old McDonald Had a Farm
~ Clothespin Counting Cards
~ Phonics Games
~ Simple Scissor Practice
~ Chocolate Fractions – is there a better way to learn about fractions?

Preschool Corner: Workbox Number Cards

I had every intention of posting a different printable this week, but I’ve been so wrapped up in getting our workboxes pulled together that my focus was a little swayed.

Some of you may be wondering what workboxes are {I’ll soon be posting about the system and how we’re using it this year} and some of you have already been sucked into the workbox realm. Making the workboxes fun and appealing to both me and the kids is important, so I asked both boys what they wanted on their number cards. The answers were ‘Chicken Little’ and ‘Nemo’. And then Zachary saw the Chicken Little ones and decided he wanted Monsters, Inc. instead. Since I can fit two sets on a page, I had to throw in a Bug’s Life too.

Click on the graphic to download and print the document.

The printable has two pages of number cards with the four different character sets above. I’ll be printing off two copies – one for the boxes and one for their number strips. Stay tuned to see how we’re all piecing it together!

If you are wondering about the different colors, we color code our kids. Yes, I’m serious. Each one has their own color – makes it a whole lot easier to figure out what belongs to who. Blue is for Zachary and green is for Kaleb.

While I’m in the midst of planning and re-organizing our upcoming school year, the world around me hasn’t stopped. So share, share, share!! What all have you been doing this last week?
