Encouragement and learning ideas are two of my passions and I LOVE that you all are sharing both during the linkup times each week. While being inspired is important for teaching, encouragement is needed so very much for each of us. Be sure to look through the links today too – stop by, read a few links, and encourage each other with comments! Have a great week!

hula hoop clock

Little Log Cottage School shares a creative way to use a hula hoop to learn about clocks and the minutes in an hour. Such a great hands-on way to see time in the five minute segments.

math games to make at home

Need some simple math games that you can make at home? Check out Nicole on a Tuesday and pin a few ideas from her site! It doesn’t have to be complicated for it to be something your kids learn a lot from!

make your own pattern block boards

Homemade pattern block cards can be so simple to make (you don’t need a computer!). The Practical Mom shares a quick idea with you that will have you pulling out your pattern blocks and using them tomorrow!

DidDoList4

To-do lists can be a huge discouragement to moms (believe me I know!). While I’m all for knowing what needs to be done, sometimes it’s more important to focus on what HAS been done. If you read one thing for encouragement this week, visit Cutting Tiny Bites and see how a “Did-Do List” can change your life.

Rocket Ships, Viking Ships, and Foxes – Preschool and Kindergarten Community

Homeschool Preschool: Preschool and Kindergarten Community linkup at Homeschool Creations

Sometimes the titles of these posts crack me up. Preschool and kindergarten crafts and activities can be all across the board. I love how someone can be learning about Vikings, while another family is studying about fall and a fox! Just goes to show the wonderful flexibility we have with our kids and following fun leads when learning!

Rocket Ship Kid’s Craft

rocketshipcraft

Mommy’s Bundle recycled some various materials from home to make this fun rocket ship craft with her boy. The craft was inspired by Creative Galaxy, a new tv show for kids. Love how she extended the learning fun on something her son was enjoying!

Viking Ship Craft

Viking-Ship-Craft-for-kids

This Viking boat craft from Happy Brown House is all cuteness (but don’t tell the boys I said that). You definitely need adult supervision for this one, but the end result is fabulous!

Being a Yes Mom

Craft Time

If there’s one thing I understand, it’s the dislike that many moms have in the actual process (I’ll raise my hand and say I’m one of them). Royal Little Lambs shares their crazy craft day where she said YES to the mess and had a whole heap of fun (and crafts) to show for it.

Fox Puppet Craft

fox puppet from paper bag

To go along with their fall learning and the book Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, Joyfully Weary made some fun fox puppets to go along with all of their leaf crafts. Super cute!

That’s the wrap up from last week – can’t wait to see what you all have ready to share this week.

Homeschool Preschool: Preschool and Kindergarten Community linkup at Homeschool Creations

Welcome back to another week of the Preschool and Kindergarten Community. Have you had a fun week with your kids? Over the last two weeks you all have shared some fun ideas with everyone – here are a few of the highlights.

Solar System shaving cream craft

This shaving cream solar system project from Carrot Top x 3 – just absolutely love it. They used shaving cream mixed with glue, so the planets are all puffy. Sprinkle liberally with glitter and you have something super fun and fabulous.

yarn apple

Christianity Cove shares an apple yarn craft made out of yarn that is so cute! It would be easy to alter the craft to make little pumpkins as well.

Paper-Clip-Painting3

If you have lots of paperclips on hand, you may want to check out this fun paperclip painting project from Mosswood Connections. Using simple items found around the house, she put together this fun craft.

Apple-Theme and yarn lacing

If you have a lot of yarn left over from the earlier apple craft, 1+1+1=1 has another simple yarn apple to make (and would also work great as a pumpkin). Carisa shares a ton of additional apple themed learning ideas as well.

That’s it for this roundup. Can’t wait to see what you all have been up to this week!

Preschool Ocean Theme – Preschool and Kindergarten Community

Homeschool Preschool: Preschool and Kindergarten Community linkup at Homeschool Creations

For the last few weeks our three year old co-op class has been learning about the ocean and having a lot of fun with crafts and sensory bins. Our first week we spent talking about the ocean itself and the second week we learned more about sharks. There were lots of seashells to examine, sharks teeth to touch and feel, and tons of books to read together.

And crafts. Crafts are always fun. Here are a few of the things we did together.

Cornmeal Starfish and Ocean Scene

starfish and ocean craft

There was a lot of glitter and cornmeal involved in this one. The kids spread glue on their starfish and then sprinkled it with cornmeal. We then used paintbrushes to spread glue on a piece of construction paper and they added strips of tissue paper for water and seaweed. Liberally sprinkled with glitter, they were super cute and sparkly when we finished.

Shark Craft

preschool shark craft

Nothing makes a shark more fun than ‘sharp’ teeth and googly eyes. Almost Unschoolers has a great tutorial on how to put this together. We just eyeballed the outline and used a small paper plate for the jaws of the shark.

Ocean Sensory Bin

ocean theme sensory bin

The kids LOVED the ocean sensory bin! Our tub was filled with aquarium rocks and decorative marbles, lots of fun Toob sea creatures, and water. Lots of water. The kids had a blast splashing around and feeding the fish little beads.

homemade beach sand sensory box fun

The homemade beach sand was a HUGE hit as well. Since we don’t live near the ocean, we made something quick and so simple. The kids could dig, build mini castles, and just play in the sand – loved it!

We also made a jellyfish craft similar to this one, made a shark out of an envelope, and made a fun bottle showing the waves of the ocean.
