The weatherman has been predicting snow and lots of it. As homeschool moms, we don’t depend on a bus picking up our child so the whatever the weather ~ school is on, right?

Growing up, snow was a very normal occurrence in our area and snow days were reserved for huge blizzards. Where we live now, snow is a treat and drivers in our area are typically a little unsure of how to handle the weather.
This morning we woke up to about 4” of snow and although the kids don’t know it yet, they are going to have a snow day. Although the trek to our schoolroom isn’t treacherous or unsafe, we’re going to have some fun playing in the snow, drinking hot cocoa and relaxing together.
The beauty of homeschooling is ~ we can have a snow day whenever we want to!

Have fun in the snow :-) We will do some snow play today.. as much as the sick little boy can handle :-P
Hope he is feeling better!!
he lasted all of 12 minutes before the coughing started back up.. but it was thankfully his idea to come back in :-P
I think snow days are a must for homeschooling. :-) I’m always kinda sad when my friends say they have work to get through they don’t take snow days . . .well, when we get huge snows, we will have snow days and head outside. So the kids can have tons of fun playing in the snow! Have fun and enjoy!!! Your kids will have a great memory of their mom giving them the day off :-)
That is the beauty of homeschooling…sometimes though when we have been working really hard and we have a beautiful sunny day we take a “sun” day and just play and enjoy the sunshine and all the wonderful blessings God has given us outside! Enjoy your snow day! ♥
We don’t get a lot of snow, so it depends on the icy mixture that is mixed in with the snow. Snow~ YAY! at least one snow day. Ice~ Yuck! no snow day.
We save our “snow days” for those perfect days for snow play. Here in Wisconsin we usually get lots of snow. Not this year however. They are calling for some snow this week with temperatures in the upper 30’s and low 40’s….it should be beautiful time for building snowmen and other fun things. So it will be a snow day for us!
As a homeschooling mom of 7, for 22 years, I say do it! I still have 3 at home, and when it snows, we do school in the morning, and them go out and shovel after lunch. They are older now, and have a lot of school work to do for classes they take at our co-op. I really miss having younger kids at home and going out to play in the snow. I do not miss all the snowpants and boots and mittens!
That sounds like so much fun! Hope you enjoy your snow day and throw a few snowballs for us Floridians!! :)
This year we have had so little snow (compared to what we’re used to) that I have told the kids if we have 3-4 inches of snow we will have a snow day. So far, we haven’t gotten it but we’re still hopeful!! :-)
Enjoy your snow day! I wish we would get some decent snowfall here.
We did that last Monday. It was a treat. enjoy!
Love it! We live in sunny Florida, and last week, we had a fanstastic day playing hooky from school and going to the park for a picnic. The kids were so excited and it was such a perfect day. Enjoy it! They are only little for so long…
As soon as I saw the title of your post I thought, “homeschoolers can have whatever kind of day they want!”
{so true!!}
At my house when the temperature goes above 55 degrees on any day in January or February we take the day off! On snow days we get so much done since outside activities are cancelled. Although occasionally a good snow fort is a must.
I love the way you write. I could feel the excitement of such a day.
My children always took a snow day at any opportunity! I was all in favor of this because a fun break always brings better results the next day. Besides, who can resist a good snow ball fight or making snow angels and then running inside to get hot chocolate?
