Full-Size-Discipline-Challenge-300x300

With the release of 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life and an upcoming 21 Day Self-Discipline Challenge starting November 1st, I thought this would be a great time to share an area that I’ve been putting off. Because in truth it just seemed a wee bit overwhelming and there are ALWAYS other things that I can do.

Ahem.

Enter our history timeline. Last year we started working on timeline information with Mystery of History, but

  1. the printed figures that we had were a bit too large
  2. I didn’t have the ‘right’ timeline to put up in our schoolroom
  3. and {you can insert additional excuses I thought up here}

This summer I found a great timeline poster, hung it up on the wall, and ordered different timeline figures so I could print off a smaller size…and the timeline is still hanging empty on the wall. No figures, dates or anything to help in the process.

Most unhelpful, you might notice. I even have it hiding behind our spelling board so I won’t notice it as much. Can you see it? It’s hiding in shame…yes, it is.

My project for the 21 day challenge will be getting the timeline caught up to where we are in history. Printing off the key timeline figures, coloring them in, laminating them…and having that timeline off my ‘to do’ list once and for all.

There will be more details on the 21 Day Self-Discipline Challenge coming October 31st, but in the meantime, I’d love for you to consider joining me and others in tackling our self-discipline and a specific project during the month of November. Maybe there is an area that you would like to work on: an unfinished scrapbook, getting back into the exercise routine, etc…

Having accountability really helps me, so I’m looking forward to sharing more of what I’m doing over the course of the 21 days – will you join in too? Pick up a copy of 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life and start thinking about what area you would like to tackle during the challenge  – can’t wait to hear what you all are working on as well!

  1. I think this is a great idea. I love your homeschooling room. I am thinking about taking the challenge. We are in the process of moving so maybe that would be a good way to get the house organized faster when we move next week?

  2. so yea i too haven’t started my timeline either! I need to get on that! :-)

  3. Speaking of your spelling board, we’re about to start All About Reading Level 1. Where did you get your board? And is it really necessary? It’s sooooo huge… =(

    • I picked up one at Walmart or Target – just a standard magnetic board. We use ours all the time. Before we had the space we do now, we used to slide it behind the couch. :) We also use it as a dry erase to write out the spelling words, but it is very handy! :)

  4. So glad you’ll be joining in! I really love your blog :) I was surfing around your site the other day and discovered your AWESOME blog planner printable. I will definitely be sharing that on my blog when I post about my blog binder because it’s a really great resource.

  5. Jolanthe, we HAVE that timeline – and we love it!!!!! We didn’t do any of the printouts our anything – just started writing. Low barrier to entry, we called that when I worked in an office and tried to promote engagement! :)

  6. Trying to see what the other posters are on your wall. The space one and the one in colors. Do you have links to those? Also do you have a link to your morning board that I can look at a little closer?

  7. LOL I can relate on the need to catch up on the timeline. Our Sonlight book of time is always behind too. When we finally get around to catching it up I call it review. lol

  8. photojenic says

Where did you get your timeline poster? We have to school in the kitchen and I *need* something small. Thanks!

  9. Where did you get your timeline pieces for MOH? I will be using this curriculum when we finish our current one and I have been looking at different timelines. Thanks!

  10. I’m having the same timeline issues. I have one that is 10 feet long, which is great, but finding a wall to put it on that doesn’t have doorways or windows has proven challenging. I just need to take a deep breath and put it up. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

  11. I bought a copy yesterday> really feel inspired to complete homemakers binder that I have been wanting to do for at least a year. Good Luck with your timeline>

  12. So glad that you’re joining us! Love your mega-project.

  13. My kids love our timeline and reference it often. The work is worth it, I promise.
