Yesterday a package arrived at my house – one that I wasn’t expecting, but literally made me so very happy and a little teary. It may have been a children’s book, but when one of your friends publishes something that is so dear to her heart, you only want to celebrate along with her!
Maybe you remember I went to visit a donkey named Flash last summer. (You did read that correctly – a donkey). Granted, I also spent time with his owner, Rachel, but Flash was the man of the hour. Flash (in all his soft-eared furry goodness) is a reminder to look for God and how He is speaking to us in the every day moments of life – from the simple to crazy times. If you aren’t quite following my thoughts, read more here.
While Rachel’s first book was written more for adults, her newest literary addition, Flash the Donkey Makes New Friends, is one to pull out and cozy up on the couch with all the littles in the family. The illustrations are so sweet (Rachel authored and illustrated the entire book). Last summer we peeked at some rough ideas and sketches she had and seeing it all together in book form is absolutely spectacular. Now there is a whole new way to love Flash.
Here’s a little look at what the book is about (because she says it much better than I could):
A stray donkey with a penchant for inventions is taken in by a mismatched collection of barnyard friends. Flash the Donkey Makes New Friends is the heartwarming story of a not-so-ordinary donkey who needs a special place to belong. Flash is the inquisitive type who loves to invent things and solve problems, but his curiosity sometimes gets him into trouble! With the help of his new-found friends―Jed the Goat, Carson the Pig, and Ruby the Chicken―Flash manages to turn problems into adventures and learns valuable lessons along the way.
Celebrate the Book Release with Me (ok – Rachel and Flash)!

Rachel is going to be celebrating the launch of her newest book with a virtual Facebook Party. My calendar is marked for Friday, October 7th at 7pm – and kids are more than welcome to sit in on the fun. There will be a book reading, activities, and fun for kids of all ages.
The book releases officially on October 1st – don’t forget to download the free go-along activity pages for Flash the Donkey Makes New Friends.
Now quick – order your copy of Flash the Donkey Makes New Friends so you can enjoy some cuddle time on the couch with the kiddos!
