I know that there are LOTS to choose from, but a project that Laurianna is working on for Awana has us all talking about our favorite Bible verses {and many times WHY it is our favorite verse}. Narrowing it down to just one verse can be hard! Right now, the verse that has been on my heart is:
“Teach me Your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth. Give me an undivided heart that I may fear Your name.”
I love that it’s also a song on one of the Seeds albums too! :)
What is YOUR favorite verse ~ and is there a reason why? Do your favorites change?
Do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
You’re right…so many good ones to choose from! Psalm 19:14 – May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
yes, I think my favorite verses change with the seasons I’m in. I do love Isaiah 43:1-3 though. It will probably always be right at the top for me!
Isaiah 30:19-21
…you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you. Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Thank you, myboysteacher34, for this verse! It was just what I needed today with what I am going through!
yeah, God!!! :)
Oh my favorites change depending on what my passion at the moment is. My favorite right now is
2 Corinthians 3:17:
“…where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
Our country is going down the tubes, but it’s so comforting to know that regardless of what happens, as long as we can invite the Spirit of the Lord into our homes and hearts we will continue to be free.
it’s probably one of the most well known in the Bible, but Phil 4:13 -i can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me–is my absolute favorite..although there isnt’ much about Philippians that i don’t love!
My favorite bible verse is John 3:16 . This was the very first verse I memorized, and then I was able to memorize The Lords’ Prayer.
Psalm 118:24. My daughter was in the hospital just after having undergone major brain surgery to remove a tumor. I had been bathing in God’s Word before and after, and I came to this verse and just stopped and heard Him speak it to the depths of my heart. I had a choice to make and I chose to rejoice in that day and each day forward. “This is the day the Lord has made, we WILL rejoice and be glad in it”.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
I am His masterpiece and He has something for me to accomplish on this earth! :) Gives one a grand sense of purpose doesn’t it?
Romans 8:28 All things work together for good for those who love Him.
Psalm 103 is my favourite full chapter. I memorized it last year and the kids quizzed me so they still remember several verses from it. My hope was that they would see how Scripture is important to their mom and eventually memorize Scripture on their own.
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Deut. 31:6
It’s been my favorite for a very long time. I’m always finding other verses that speak to my heart, but I think this one will remain my favorite. I love how it encourages me to be strong – to keep going and endure – and that while I’m being strong, God is always right there. I also used to deal with alot of fear and this verse helped me overcome some of that. No matter what else happens, He won’t leave me.
mine is
My soul finds rest in God alone, my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress I will never be shaken. Psalm 62: 1-2
at this stage of life anything with the word “rest” is a fav of mine! LOL! But seriously, I love that there is so much to God… a pillow for my soul, a rock to keep me stable, a fortress to protect me…
Mine is not a commonly referenced one:
Joshua 3:5 (New International Version, ©2010)
5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”
I like that the focus is on being quiet and contemplative and work on doing what you can and need to do today, while remembering that God has a plan for you that you are preparing for and he will reveal to you when it is time.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
This is my favorite one right now, in this season in my life. So, yes, my favorite verse changes. :-) I am in awe at you and other moms with more then 2 kids! I just have two and some days are pretty intense :-) But I LOVE being a homemaker and being the one who’s raising my children! Wouldn’t trade it, ever!
Ps. 46:10 Be still and know that I am God. lovelovelove that one.
I was JUST reading a devotional on that about 5 minutes ago. :)
2 Corinthians 6:3-10.
Why?
I love the almost poetic nature and the contrast of words. I like how it shares both the good and the bad. I am amazed at how the passage inspires me while making me a bit more somber. It’s encouraging, even while it predicts unpleasant times.
~Luke
love that! :) makes me think of ‘pressed but not crushed,
persecuted…not abandoned.’ Another verse with the two contrasts, but
encouraging too. :)
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
James 1:3-5 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds. For you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be made mature and complete, lacking nothing.”
I like this because even though this is not an easy verse to apply (Joy in trials!) but it reminds me that the hard stuff I come upon in this life have a greater purpose. They are meant to mold me, shape me, make me whole. Not tear me apart. There is beauty in the trials and that gives me hope!
Mark 1:11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
God is my father and he is pleased with me, in all my human frailty. Therefore I can keep going and growing as he plans.
Philemon 1:18 “If he wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to me”
